Tip of the Week
I love the story of St. Patrick, because it embodies the idea of grace, forgiveness, and love.
If you don’t know the story: Patrick lived in the 5th century in Great Britain. As a teenager, he was captured and sold into slavery by Irish pirates. After 6 years as a slave, he escaped and found his way back home. However, he felt a strong call to go back to what is now Ireland and share the good news of Jesus Christ (i.e., redemption, forgiveness, grace) with the Irish Celts. Because of St. Patrick, Christianity was introduced to Ireland.
Amazing, no? How many of us would be willing to go back to the people who enslaved us to share good news with them? Yet, that is what St. Patrick did and why he is remembered.
So, what does this all have to do with writing? I’m glad you asked! Here’s my answer, and I’ll ask for yours later…
Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I use my writing skills. I’ve published academic papers, recently published two books, and write blog posts for this newsletter. But, I sometimes wonder. Is any of this really helping anyone? Is there any grace and love and truth in what I write? Is anyone being changed for the better? I may never know the answers, but I do know one thing: I want to make sure that what I write has positive impact. So, I write in faith, staying true to convictions.
How about you? How do you stay true to your writing convictions? Is what you are writing impacting others for good? How do you/can you know?
Please leave a comment and let us know! Thank you so much!
Until next time…happy writing, productivity, and truth-seeking!
