Tip of the Week
As we welcome the new year, let’s “look back to look forward”.
Here’s what I mean, practically.
What follows is an edited excerpt from my new book (Writing With Purpose, Peace, and Passion: A Guide for Sustaining Your Academic Writing), which you can now purchase on Amazon:
At the end of a semester, year, etc: celebrate by making an “Accomplishment List” (Goodson et al. 2020, p. 115). Here are the main ideas behind this list:
An accomplishment list is the opposite of a to-do list. It is a list of things you have accomplished—big and small—within a specific time period such as a month, a semester, and/or a year–you choose the time period.
The list is important because, too often, we don’t even remember what we’ve accomplished, erring on wondering why we feel exhausted and not remembering everything we did.
To complete this list, it helps to have old to-do lists or a calendar in front of you.
I’ve created these lists at the end of academic semesters and have found them refreshing, encouraging, and motivating. Once written, they are a mini celebration of accomplishments.
These are a GREAT way to start the year RIGHT and look forward to all the accomplishments to come! Give it a try as you close out the new year and look forward to the new one. :-)
